Not Just A Laundry Room Anymore

Not Just A Laundry Room Anymore

When space allows, laundry rooms are being requested to function as more than just a place to fold clean clothes. With clean lines and organization on the rise, increased amounts of storage space is needed. Now, instead of this just being a laundry room it turns into a room for all that extra stuff you don’t know where to store. Extra paper towels, cleaning supplies, crafts, gift bags, pet supplies, etc. Wall cabinets, tall utility cabinets, and counter space all contribute to a fully functioning space to do just about anything. Maybe a more appropriate name would be the “Lifestyle” room, where every day necessity meets fashionable organization.

Moving beyond just storage, these flexible spaces offer many options in terms of design and functionality. Folding stations, hanging space and organizational elements like wire baskets all have a place and a purpose, and make doing laundry much easier. Islands are a kitchen-inspired hit in laundry rooms, whether for folding or for crafts projects. Pet nooks are also gaining popularity, as are cabinets dedicated to storing pet supplies.

No longer are plastic wash basins being used, but rather high quality built in sinks with coordinating faucets, countertops and cabinets. This is becoming a room where you’ll want to spend time finishing that Pinterest project, neatly folding and storing extra linens, or finding the dogs extra treats. The end goal is utilizing every bit of space in the home, and using it well.
