Once viewed as a functional convenience designed to protect walls and simplify clean-up, the backsplash is now an important decorative component of your space. When paired with that beautiful new countertop, your backsplash will enhance your cabinetry and add another “wow factor”.

Keep in mind that the backsplash and countertop meet at the wall line. It is important and necessary that they compliment each other. Find a backsplash you like with one color reflected in the countertop, this way they will coincide without being identical.

The style of your space should also be reflected in the backsplash. Take design cues from the other surrounding elements to pull the room together. Whether your home is country, Tuscan, contemporary or traditional, consider that when picking out the color and texture of your tile.

Placement of backsplash is another factor that depends on the open wall space surrounding your cabinets. Will the tiles you’ve selected show well running underneath cabinets, around a window or behind a cooktop? Are there any larger openings that give way to a more intricate design?  When done properly, this feature can bring a more dramatic tone without taking away from the rest of the space.
